After four years of collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority, Alert eBusiness was delighted to be re-appointed by MTA to develop the new generation www.VisitMalta.com.
The portal went live earlier this year and has been welcomed by the industry as an important new tool to help grow tourism to the islands. The central point of the website is a Geographic Information System (GIS) that was custom developed for MTA based on Google Maps by the Alert team. Prospective tourists use the GIS to explore Malta and plan their holiday, browsing the maps to identify places of interest, restaurants, hotels, public transport routes and other information that is useful for them. This is paired with a Travel Planner, which allows tourists to put together a daily schedule for their holiday by adding events and excursions. Users can then print the planner or access it from a mobile device and use it as a guide during their stay.
The design of the new portal gives prominence to large, vivid images of Maltese locations popular with tourists. The whole site is accessible from any type of device including mobiles, iPads and iPhones.
The VisitMalta portal is powered by the Alert Web Publisher and is hosted in the Alert Data Centre, with Alert also responsible for the operation of a disaster recovery setup in the UK. The Alert Internet Marketing team has also been entrusted with the search engine optimisation of the portal, ensuring that the site ranks highly for keywords related to vacations in Malta.
